Condemned to death. Executed. Yet somehow, you survived. Now you roam the endless tunnels of the City Below, the Midnight Throne: Ker Nethalas. Will your skills and wits save you once again, or will you join the countless restless dead?

Welcome to Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne, a single player dungeon crawler set in an endless necropolis. With the tools presented in the book you’ll tell the story of your character who, after miraculously surviving an execution, wakes up to realize that their problems have just begun, and that there are fates worse than death.

When you sit down to play Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne, you, the player, take on the role of a single character. Your PC is your avatar in the dark tunnels of the necropolis, and your decisions (and luck!) will determine their fate.

Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne uses a simple D100 ruleset to resolve all tasks. Whenever a PC tries to do something and the result isn't evident, or there is something at stake, you will need to perform a check. This is done by rolling D100, and comparing the result to the corresponding skill on the character’s sheet. If the result is equal or lower than the skill’s score, the check is a success.

Combat is a big part of what makes Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne unique: characters need to manage their resources while being smart about their choice of powers used. The opposed combat check makes combat unpredictable and will require your constant attention, as you evaluate the different options that will open to you depending on your luck and actions.

Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne features:

  • Detailed random dungeon generation, providing endless replayability and adventures, with an easy to use D100 ruleset that makes it the ideal game for new solo RPG players.
  • Meaningful character builds with endless combinations. Want to make a warlock that wears heavy armor and summons the dead, or a berserker that casts cold blasts and turns invisible, or an expert at hand-to-hand combat that can summon a shadow clone? These and many more are all possible, thanks to 100 different abilities, spread among 20 Masteries.
  • Tense survival mechanics, focused on the dungeon delving experience. Want to take a rest? You better make sure you fortify that room, or something will wander inside and eat your face out.
  • A unique bestiary with a wide array of undead creatures and other similar abominations, each one with a detailed action table to randomly determine what they do in their turn.
  • Hundreds of loot and gear items, as well as a simple system to randomly generate magic items, to ensure you never loot the same magic sword or boots twice.
  • An original dark fantasy setting, inspired by England in the 17th Century, and Spain at the height of the Inquisition.
  • Built from the ground up to be played by a single player with a single character. You are alone in the darkness, and nobody’s coming to rescue you.

Hello, I just purchased the Amazon copy. I plan to create a YouTube video playing the game on my solo board game channel. Is it possible to get a digital copy of the book? Thanks

Hello, yes! I offer free PDFs with the purchase of any of my games via Amazon. All I need is for you to email me a screenshot of the transaction to info@blackoathgames.com. Thanks!

Hi, the print quality of the Amazon copies is horrendous. The printers should be ashamed of themselves. Is there anywhere else to order a copy in the US? Thanks!

Yes, you can order from DTRPG!

Found it, thank you!

Hello, its me again! Been loving Broken Shores, so I bought the pdf/physical package of this lovely dungeon crawl from DriveThru RPG. Waiting on the physical copy, so I've been reading through the PDF. ^_^

I might have more questions later, but this one has been stuck in my brain. The Hexmancer's passive affects damage done by your hexmancer abilities (not your hexmancer's abilities). As it reads, this means that the passive only affects the hexmancer tier 4 ability, as it is the only hexmancer ability that does direct damage (unless it technically counts the tier 2 ability as well, since it does increase the damage done by other sources).

Was this intended or was it supposed to affect all of your abilities (ie. written as hexmancer's abilities and not hexmancer abilities)? The reason why I ask is because it feels out of place as a passive compared to the other passives if it literally only affects one ability and an ability you only get later at that.

Everything looks great! One recommendation: A page of the mapping tiles in the Tables Reference Sheets. Other than that, everyone who plays solo RPGs should check this out, especially if you are tired of journaling.

Glad you like it! And yeah, that's an excellent suggestion, thanks!
